The New Mom Edit: 5 Things I Was Genuinely Glad I Had

Five things I was genuinely glad I had as a new mom. Postpartum recovery, nursing, comfort, and the little things that made those first weeks easier — because you really don’t need every “must-have” on the internet.

1. Frida Mom Peri Bottle

Okay, I had no idea what this contraption was before having a baby, but it quickly became a must-have for those first few weeks. The hospital usually gives you a peri bottle, but this one has a curved neck that makes it much easier to use. It also means you can rinse instead of wiping — because you really won’t want to be wiping down there for a minute.

2. Frida Mom Disposable Underwear

Obsessed. Period. Comfy and kind of cute too? Another thing you’ll be happy to have on hand. In those first few days, the last thing you want to worry about is ruining your regular underwear. These are comfortable, leave plenty of room for padsicles (iykyk), and can be tossed when you’re done — or washed and worn again.

3. Earth Mama Perineal Spray

This was another one I didn’t know about before having a baby, but I was very glad I had it when I needed it. It has a cooling, soothing feel and is easy to use — just a few quick sprays and you’re done. Bonus: the bottle lasts a while and can still come in handy outside of postpartum if you’re ever feeling a little less than great down there.

4. SKIMS Nursing Bra

I’ve researched and used plenty of nursing bras, and I really think you get your bang for your buck with these. They’re buttery soft, supportive without feeling too structured, and cute enough to wear postpartum — or honestly, whenever. I lived in these during the early months and still get a ton of use out of them.

5. SKIMS Robe

I love this purchase because you really can’t go wrong with a good robe — but especially during pregnancy and postpartum. It’s soft, lightweight, perfect to wear in the hospital, and easy to throw on during those early days at home with your newborn. And honestly, the biggest bonus? They’re so cute.

The truth is, you don’t need a million things to prepare for a baby. These are just the five things I was genuinely glad I had — the things that made those first few weeks a little more comfortable, convenient, or manageable.

And if you’re building your own list, take what you need and leave the rest. There’s no perfect way to do this as everyone’s journey looks different.
